Prep.Time – 4 hours | Cooking Time – 15 minutes | Total Time – 4 hours 15 minutes | Servings – 10

INGRIDIENTS

11/2 cups of black gram/black urad dal

1tsp of cumin

2tsp of pepper

salt as needed

1/4cup ghee/ Cold pressed oil

METHOD TO PREPARE

Wash the black gram thoroughly and soak it for about 3 to 4 hours and drain it.

Ground the cumin, pepper and salt all together as fine powder.

Add black gram with the ground fine powder and blend them without adding water to it and then drizzle some water and blend to a coarse paste.

The final product mixture will be thick and sticky once its ground.

Grease the banana leaf or take a moist cloth for making the vada and make sure to wet your hand so that when spreading the vada it won’t sticky on hand.

Take a small portion of dough and shape them to balls.

Place them on the cloth or greased banana leaf and spread them to thin vada.

Only if the vada is spread thin, it gets cooked well.

Heat the pan, pour in some ghee or cold pressed oil once if the oil/ghee is heated up, drop in the vadas in the hot ghee/oil.

Flip and fry them on both the sides until it turns golden on a medium flame. Repeat the process and fry all the vadas.

Now, the black urad dal vada is ready to serve.
